Case Details

In 2020, China Mobile finished the construction and commissioning of communication base stations at Everest Base Camp (5,200 m above sea level), Intermediate Camp (5,800 m above sea level) and Advanced Camp (6,500 m above sea level). The 5G signals fully cover the summit of Mount Everest, marking a milestone achievement in China’s 5G network infrastructure development.

The deployment of 5G networks on Mount Everest fully interprets the philosophy of technology for social good. Beyond supporting mountaineers and explorers, the deployed 5G network supplies stable network support for scientific investigation, geographic mapping and ecological environment protection.

Case Highlights

Mount Everest features rugged terrain and extremely harsh operating conditions for base station deployment. Material transportation faces tremendous obstacles and can only be completed via livestock hauling and manual porterage.

Huawei lightweight 5G AUU stations are adopted for field deployment. With high integration, compact footprint and excellent portability, such devices greatly lower the construction barriers of Everest 5G projects.

Jointly developed by LAZZEN and Huawei, dedicated circuit breakers for 5G applications cut the installation dimension from 3U down to 1U, saving 66% layout space for base station power distribution equipment. The product addresses technical bottlenecks in high-density power distribution installation and realizes modularized, miniaturized design for cabinet switching power supplies. The optimized power distribution solution enables the construction of minimalist 5G stations and solidifies the successful 5G signal coverage on Mount Everest.
